Govt. College,
Hansi was initially started in 1968 as a private Arts College (Affiliated to
Punjab University, Chandigarh) teaching up to bachelor’s Classes named as Nehru
Memorial College, Hansi, which was situated on National Highway No. 10 about 3
K.M away from Hansi Town towards Delhi. It was reaffiliated to Kurukshetra
University, Kurukshetra in 1974 as it had started as a new University. Commerce classes were also started in
1977. This college had proved to be a
boon to the students of all villages around Hansi town.
Nehru Memorial College, Hansi was taken over by
Haryana Govt. on 15.2.1980 and renamed as N.M. Govt. College, Hansi. Govt.
decided to construct a new college building, as the old building was declared
unsafe in 1984. A new campus had come into existence on 1.9.1988 on the Barwala
Bye-pass road about 2 K.M from Hansi Bus stand.
In the beginning, only a science block was constructed, and the college
started its classes of Arts and Commerce faculties in the new building w.e.f
the session 1988. The Science classes
(10+1 and 10+2) started in 1990, but were discontinued in 1996 as shifted to
Schools. The college was renamed to
Govt. College Hansi on 25-08-2015 as per the instruction of state government. The College is currently
affiliated to Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology, Hisar. Presently, B.A., B.Com., B.Sc. (NM), BCA,
M.Com., B.Sc. (Hons) Mathematics, PGDCA, PG diploma in Yoga and Mental Health
courses are running in the college. The post accreditation period therefore involves the phase
from 2014 to 2018, when the institution was affiliated to Kurukshetra
University Kurukshetra and with effect from 2017 it is affiliated to GJU
S&T Hisar.
Guru Jambheshwar University of Science & Technology, Hisar (formerly Guru Jambheshwar University) is a State University established on October 20, 1995 by an Act of the Legislature of the State of Haryana to facilitate and promote studies and research in emerging areas of higher education with a focus on new frontiers of technology, pharmacy, environmental studies, non-conventional energy sources and management studies and also to achieve excellence in these and connected fields. It was formally inaugurated on November 1, 1995. It is named after Guru Jambheshwar Ji Maharaj, a saint environmentalist of 15th century.
The University is situated at Hisar, a rapidly growing town at a distance of 167 Km. from Delhi on Delhi - Rohtak - Hisar- Sirsa - Fazilka National Highway (NH-9) and 231 Km. from Chandigarh on NH-152. The University is spread over a sprawling area of about 372 acres. The campus is laid out with picturesque landscape, numerous buildings of various designs and wide road network. It presents a spectacle of harmony in architecture and natural beauty.
The University has been recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under Section 2(f) for recognition of degrees on 11.1.1996 and under section 12(B) of the UGC Act to be eligible for central assistance on 7.2.1997. The University is A+ Grade accredited University from National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) w.e.f. 18.10.2022 to 17.10.2027 with a CGPA of 3.38 in the fourth cycle of assessment and accreditation. Earlier, the University has been three times accredited with 'A' Grade, with increased score in each cycles (three) by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in 2002, 2009 and 2014.
